Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Canada's Defence Tech Hackathon ("CDTH", "we", "us") handles personal information collected through cdth.ca and related event communications. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
What we collect
- Contact details you give us: email address, name and organization.
- Sign-up details: your path (build, sponsor, partner, volunteer, mentor or judge), in-person or online preference, skills, availability, interests and any message you write.
- Your consent choice for event update emails, and the time you signed up.
- Basic technical data your browser sends (such as device type), used only to keep the site running and secure.
How we use it
- To manage the waitlist, registration, teams, volunteers, mentors, judges, sponsors and partners.
- To send confirmations and essential event logistics.
- To send event updates, only if you opted in.
- To plan the event, for example estimating attendance and forming balanced teams.
We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers to host the website, store sign-ups and send email. They process data only on our instructions. Some providers may store data outside Canada, where it may be subject to local laws. If you're a sponsor or partner, we share your details only with the organizing team. We won't share a participant's details with sponsors without asking first.
Photos and recordings
The in-person event may be photographed, filmed or livestreamed. We'll tell attendees on site and offer a way to opt out of being featured.
Retention
We keep sign-up information until 12 months after the event, then delete or anonymize it, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your information, or withdraw consent for update emails at any time by replying to any of our emails or writing to hello@cdth.ca. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or Alberta's Information and Privacy Commissioner.
Security
Sign-ups are stored in an access-controlled database and sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access to the organizing team.
Changes
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do.
